Before You Write: How to Get the Most from Your Message
Ancient Ways Revealed is a small, independent heritage desk based in Santa Fe. We are not a museum, a tribal office, a tour operator or an official archive, so we cannot issue permits, verify artefacts or arrange access to private or sacred sites. What we can do is talk about the stories we publish, point you toward sources we have used, and listen when you know something we don't.
Messages we especially welcome
- Corrections and context. If a passage in one of our longform chapters gets a date, a place name or a cultural detail wrong, please tell us. Include the chapter title and, where possible, the source you are relying on.
- Family and community knowledge. Oral histories, old photographs and letters often hold details that never reached printed records. If you are willing to share, explain what you would like us to do with the material and whether it may be quoted.
- Research questions. We are happy to say which books, collections or archive notes informed a piece, though we cannot carry out research on your behalf.
- Event suggestions. Lectures, gallery talks and heritage gatherings around northern New Mexico may suit our events listings. Please send a link to the organiser's own announcement so readers can confirm details there.
A note on respect and permissions
Many traditions of the Southwest belong to living Pueblo, Diné, Apache and Hispano communities. Some ceremonies, songs and places are not meant for outside publication. If you are sharing material connected to a community, we will ask whether it is appropriate to publish, and we may decline items that should stay within that community. Likewise, we do not publish exact locations of archaeological sites, which are protected under federal and state law.
What to expect
We are a small team, so replies can take some time, particularly during busy research periods. A clear subject line and a brief summary at the top of your email help us respond sooner. We never sell or share the addresses of people who write to us, and we will not quote your message publicly without asking first.
